Ammolite is the iridescent outer layer of fossilized ammonites. High grade ammolite can show any color of the rainbow. Only 5% found in Alberta Canada are suitable gem material...like this one! This piece has nearly the entire spectrum of the rainbow. 70-75 million years old. Blue and purple are considered the rarest colors in ammolites.
